• Monday, Nov. 1 to Tuesday, Nov. 2: professional workdays (Nov. 2 is Election Day)
• Friday, Jan. 21: professional workday
• Monday, March 6 to Tuesday, March 7: professional workdays (March 7 is the presidential primary)

Makeup days

The calendar names no bad-weather makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar marks eight religious and cultural observances on school days. School is open. FCPS does not schedule tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, auditions and tryouts, or district athletic events that cannot be made up on religious and cultural observances. The list is below.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
• The calendar prints no testing windows.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows professional workdays (June 15) and Juneteenth (June 19). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 23, 2027. The last day is Wednesday, June 14, 2028, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 9 to 20.

The district prints 180 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

The calendar prints each quarter's end date and day count. Each quarter below starts on the first school day after the last one ends.

Religious and cultural observances

The calendar marks these religious and cultural observances. School is open on each. FCPS does not schedule tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, auditions and tryouts, or district athletic events that cannot be made up on religious and cultural observances.

What the district notes

• Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2027, is a school day.
• Some holidays and observances, such as Eid al-Fitr, may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.
• Dates are subject to change. Any changes will be communicated as early as possible.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the 2027-28 date list on fcps.edu/calendars.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. The district's printed day counts match our own count of its calendar. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
