Every day with no school for students, from the first day to the last: 17 entries and 33 weekdays in all.

FCPS early release days

Twelve early release days in all. Four are for every school. The other eight are for some schools only, listed on the district page the calendar points to.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 4-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day break. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Indigenous Peoples' Day (school planning day). Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 4.5-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 30 at early dismissal to Tuesday, Nov. 3. End of 1st quarter early release, school planning day and Election Day (teacher workday). Back Wednesday, Nov. 4.
• 5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 25 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 16 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Sunday, Jan. 3. Winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Fifteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and three weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Seven of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

The calendar names no bad-weather makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar marks 12 religious and cultural observances on school days. School is open. FCPS does not schedule tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, auditions and tryouts, or district athletic events that cannot be made up on religious and cultural observances. The list is below.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• The calendar prints no testing windows.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff development day (June 17), Juneteenth (observed) (June 18) and teacher workday (June 21). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, June 16, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 10 to 21.

The calendar prints each quarter's end date and day count. Each quarter below starts on the first school day after the last one ends.

Religious and cultural observances

The calendar marks these religious and cultural observances. School is open on each. FCPS does not schedule tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, auditions and tryouts, or district athletic events that cannot be made up on religious and cultural observances.

What the district notes

• Specific dismissal times may vary by school. Schools will communicate applicable early release dates and dismissal times directly to families.
• Middle and high schools may hold school-specific early releases as needed. Times vary by school.
• Some holidays and observances, such as Eid al-Fitr, may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.
• Dates are subject to change. Any changes will be communicated as early as possible.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the 2026-27 date list on fcps.edu/calendars and the district's Limited Early Release Wednesdays page.
