Common questions

Do I need an account to try it?

No. Every device gets one free scan before it asks you to sign up, so you can see the app work on one of your own papers first. That trial scan is once per device, and reinstalling doesn't reset it. After that, creating a free account gets you a monthly allowance.

How do free scans work?

A free account gets 3 scans a month, and the allowance refreshes on the same day each month. Paid plans give you 25 or 100 scans a month. Pricing and the current plans are in the app, under the Settings tab.

What counts as a "scan"?

Only a scan that actually finds at least one event uses one up. A blank page, or something we can't read anything from, doesn't count against your limit — though if that happens several times in one day we do start counting them, so nobody can scan forever without ever finding anything.

What are bonus scans?

Bonus scans sit on top of your monthly allowance and don't expire at the end of the month. You earn them by referring another parent: when someone signs up with your link and scans their first event, you get 12 bonus scans, for up to 6 referrals. Printed bonus codes work the same way. Your monthly allowance is always used first, so bonus scans stay in reserve until you need them. Both are under Referrals and Codes in Settings.

Does it have to be a photo?

No. You can take a photo, pick a photo or a PDF already on your device, or send one to KidsFoldr from another app's share sheet. On plans that include Email Events you can also forward an email to the intake address shown in Settings, and we'll reply with what we found. Email Events needs the address on your account verified first, which you can do in Settings.

Which calendars does KidsFoldr work with?

Any calendar already set up on your phone — iCloud, Google, or Outlook accounts added in your device's own Settings app. KidsFoldr writes events straight there.

Can I send an event to someone else?

Yes. Sharing an event creates a link that opens a page with the event on it, plus an Add to Calendar button and a calendar file, so it works in Messages and anywhere else. The recipient doesn't need KidsFoldr. You choose per share whether to include your notes, your kids' names and the photo. The link expires on its own, the day after the event or two weeks out, whichever comes first, and it can't be withdrawn before then, so only send it to people you're happy to have see it.

What are the Automagic Tools?

The optional extras in Settings. Add Addresses fills in an event's location from the venue or school named on the page (it needs your ZIP code to know where to look). Smart Extract keeps only the events that apply to your family and discards the rest, which is what you want for a whole-league sports schedule. Automatic Import sends events to your calendar without a review step. Email Events is the forwarding address above. Duplicate Protection warns you before importing something already on your calendar. The first four are paid-plan features and start off until you turn them on; Duplicate Protection is free and on by default.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store or Google Play, the same as any other subscription on your phone — change or cancel any time from your device's subscription settings.

How do I delete my KidsFoldr account and data?

Open the KidsFoldr app, go to the Settings tab (the gear), scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. You'll be asked to type DELETE to confirm. Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone.

If you can't access the app, email support@kidsfoldr.app from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you.
