On an iPhone

In Outlook

Open the downloaded file, or in Outlook on the web go to Add calendar, then Upload from file.

These files are a copy of the calendar today. If the district changes a date, download the file again.

Every day with no school for students, from the first day to the last: 17 entries and 34 weekdays in all.

NISD early release days

The 2026-27 Northside ISD calendar prints no early release or half days. Every school day on it is a full day.

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 5-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 9 to Tuesday, Oct. 13. Student holiday (teacher exchange day) and teacher planning day. Back Wednesday, Oct. 14.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Monday, Jan. 4. Winter break and teacher planning day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 5-day weekend: Friday, Feb. 12 to Tuesday, Feb. 16. Student and staff holiday, Presidents Day and staff development day (bad weather makeup day). Back Wednesday, Feb. 17.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, March 6 to Monday, March 15. Spring break and teacher planning day. Back Tuesday, March 16.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, March 26 to Monday, March 29. Student and staff holiday. Back Tuesday, March 30.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, April 23 to Sunday, April 25. Student and staff holiday. Back Monday, April 26.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Thirteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Five of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Tuesday, Nov. 3: staff development day (Election Day)
• Monday, Jan. 4: teacher planning day
• Tuesday, Feb. 16: staff development day (bad weather makeup day)

Makeup days

Bad weather makeup day (if needed), Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates. NISD posts its assessment calendars on a separate Testing page.
• Some days off may change: staff development day (bad weather makeup day), Feb. 16 (Marked as the bad weather makeup day: it becomes a school day if NISD needs to make up a closure).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher work day (May 27), Memorial Day (May 31), Juneteenth holiday (June 18) and Independence Day holiday (July 5). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 10, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, May 26, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 7.

Grading periods

NISD prints the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grading periods as starting Oct. 13, Jan. 4 and March 15. Those are teacher planning days with no school, so the table starts each one on the first school day after. Semesters: Aug. 10 to Dec. 18 and Jan. 4 to May 26.

What the district notes

• Oct. 9 and 12 are marked "Student Holiday/Teacher Exchange", and Oct. 13 is a teacher planning day. With the weekend, students are off five days in a row, Friday to Tuesday.
• Feb. 16 is a staff development day with no school, and also the bad weather makeup day. If NISD loses a day to weather, students may have school that day.
• Students come back from winter break and spring break a day later than staff: Jan. 4 and March 15 are teacher planning days.
