Weeks with fewer than five school days

Eight weeks have fewer than five school days, and six weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Friday, Oct. 1: Half-day staff development day
• Monday, Nov. 1: professional development day
• Monday, Jan. 3: professional development day
• Friday, Feb. 11: Half-day staff development day

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 11), Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11) and Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day) (Monday, Feb. 21). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar lists no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: Thanksgiving break, Nov. 22 to 26 (Nov. 22 is an inclement weather day: it becomes a school day if weather closes school earlier in the year) and February break, Feb. 14 to 18 (Feb. 14 and 15 are inclement weather days: they become school days if weather closes school earlier in the year).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher workday (May 25) and Memorial Day (May 29). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, July 28, 2027. The last day is Wednesday, May 24, 2028, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run July 21 to 27.

What the district notes

• DCSD runs a modified year-round calendar: school starts July 28, with a week off in October (Oct. 4-8) and in February (Feb. 14-18), and ends May 24.
• Nov. 22, Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 are the district's designated inclement weather days: they become school days if weather closes school earlier in the year.
• Oct. 1 and Feb. 11 are half-day staff development days with no school for students. Sept. 30 and Feb. 10 are full school days with parent-teacher conferences after school.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar image twice: once whole, cell by cell against its legend, and once on zoomed crops of each month. Then we checked each one against the DCSD calendar page.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
