Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Friday, Oct. 2: Half-day staff development day
• Monday, Nov. 2: professional development day
• Monday, Jan. 4: professional development day
• Friday, March 12: professional development day

• The calendar lists no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: February break, Feb. 15 to 19 (Feb. 15 and 16 are inclement weather days: they become school days if weather closes school earlier in the year) and professional development day, March 12 (An inclement weather day: it becomes a school day if weather closes school earlier in the year).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher workday (May 27), Memorial Day (May 31) and Juneteenth (June 17). Students are already out.

What the district notes

• DCSD runs a modified year-round calendar: school starts July 30, with a week off in October (Oct. 5-9) and in February (Feb. 15-19), and ends May 26.
• Feb. 15, Feb. 16 and March 12 are the district's designated inclement weather days: they become school days if weather closes school earlier in the year.
• Oct. 1 is a regular school day with parent-teacher conferences after school.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar image twice: once whole, cell by cell against its legend, and once on zoomed crops of each month. Then we checked each one against the DCSD calendar page.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
