On an iPhone

On a computer, open Google Calendar, then Settings, then Import & export. Choose the file and the calendar to add it to. The dates show up on your Android phone too.

In Outlook

Open the downloaded file, or in Outlook on the web go to Add calendar, then Upload from file.

These files are a copy of the calendar today. If the district changes a date, download the file again.

Every day with no school for students, from the first day to the last: 14 entries and 38 weekdays in all.

WCSD early release days

The Balanced Calendar prints no early release or half days. It gives no hours for conference week, so check your school's schedule that week.

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 7.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, Oct. 2 to Monday, Oct. 11. Fall break and teacher professional development day. Back Tuesday, Oct. 12.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 31. Nevada Day. Back Monday, Nov. 1.
• 5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 24 to Sunday, Nov. 28. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 29.
• 18 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 17 to Monday, Jan. 3. Teacher workday, winter break and teacher professional development day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 15 to Monday, Jan. 17. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 18.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 19 to Monday, Feb. 21. Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 22.
• 16 days off in a row: Saturday, March 18 to Sunday, April 2. Spring break. Back Monday, April 3.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, May 27 to Monday, May 29. Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, May 30.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Eleven weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Monday, Oct. 11: teacher professional development day
• Friday, Dec. 17: teacher workday
• Monday, Jan. 3: teacher professional development day
• Tuesday, Feb. 1: teacher professional development day

Makeup days

No makeup days are added at the end of the year. The three contingency days, May 31, June 1 and June 2, are built in as regular school days, and the last day is Friday, June 2. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 9, 2027. The last day is Friday, June 2, 2028.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 6.

Grading periods

WCSD grades in quarters; the first two make the fall semester and the last two the spring semester. The calendar prints each quarter's end date. Each quarter starts on the first school day after the last one ends.

What the district notes

• Oct. 11, Jan. 3 and Feb. 1 are professional development days with no students. Nevada rules count them as school days in session, so the calendar's printed totals (180 days) include them.
• May 31, June 1 and June 2 are contingency days in session: regular school days built into the calendar, not extra days added at the end.
• Conference week is Monday, Oct. 18 to Friday, Oct. 22. These are school days; the calendar gives no conference hours, so watch for your school's schedule.
• Tuesday, Feb. 29 is the College and Career Readiness Assessment, for high schools only. It is a school day.
• This is the Balanced Calendar, which most WCSD schools follow. Incline Village schools, Gerlach K-12 School and TMCC High School have their own 2027-28 calendars on the same page.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked the holidays, professional development days, fall break, Thanksgiving break, conference week and high school assessment day, which the district's Incline Calendar shares against the WCSD Approved 2027-2028 School Year Calendars page and the WCSD Incline Calendar. The other dates rest on the district's calendar alone.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
