Makeup days

Snow makeup day (if needed), Friday, May 28 (a school day if the built-in snow days are needed; otherwise closed), Snow makeup day (if needed), Tuesday, June 1 (a school day if the built-in snow days are needed; otherwise closed) and Spring break makeup day (if more than four snow days are used), Friday, April 16 (only if more than four snow days are used; further days are taken working backward from April 16, or as the Board of Education decides).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) and Juneteenth (Friday, June 18). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: spring break, April 12 to 16 (If more than four snow days are used, they are made up starting April 16 and working backward, or as the Board of Education decides), Day off if snow days go unused, May 28 (Closed only while the built-in snow days go unused; a school day if they are needed) and Day off if snow days go unused, June 1 (Closed only while the built-in snow days go unused; a school day if they are needed).

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 18, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 25 to 27.

What the district notes

• The calendar counts 184 student days, including four emergency (snow) days. Two of them are already marked as closings, Friday, May 28 and Tuesday, June 1, which stay days off only while the snow days go unused, so this page counts 182 school days. If no snow days are used, the district will announce more closings.
• If more than four snow days are used, they are made up starting Friday, April 16, the last day of spring break, and working backward, or as the Board of Education decides. The last day, June 18, does not move.
• Early dismissal times: 12:55 p.m. at Milton Avenue, Southern Boulevard and Washington Avenue elementary schools (MAS, SBS, WAS), 1 p.m. at Lafayette Avenue School, noon at Chatham Middle School and 12:22 p.m. at Chatham High School. Delayed openings are 10:25 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 9:25 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. Preschool follows the MAS website.
• Regular school hours: 8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. at MAS, SBS and WAS; 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lafayette Avenue School; 7:55 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Chatham Middle School; 8:20 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chatham High School.
• Chatham High School graduation is Friday, June 18, the last day of school.
• The district's file is named "2026-2027 Option 2 District Calendar", but it is headed "Updated/BOE Approved 7/13/2026" and is the calendar the district links under Calendars, 2026-2027, so this page treats it as the adopted calendar. The Board of Education reserves the right to change it.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the district's events calendar.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
