Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

  • 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Two of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

First snow makeup day (if needed), Tuesday, May 30 (only if one or more snow days occur) and Second snow makeup day (if needed), Friday, May 26 (only if two or more snow days occur).

Also worth knowing

  • School is open on some federal holidays: Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11) and Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day) (Monday, Feb. 21). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
  • The calendar prints no testing dates.
  • Some days off may change: Snow day 2 (no school unless needed), May 26 (Becomes a school day if two or more snow days occur during the year) and Snow day 1 (no school unless needed), May 30 (Becomes a school day if any snow day occurs during the year).
  • After the last day, the calendar still shows staff-only day after the last day (June 12) and Juneteenth (June 19). Students are already out.

What the district notes

  • Conference days are early dismissal days for students, and each school sends its own conference details.
  • Eighth grade promotion is Wednesday, June 7, and Princeton High School graduation is Friday, June 9, 2028.
  • The printed monthly student day counts (182 in all) count May 26 and May 30 as school days. With no snow days, both are days off and the year has 180 student days.
  • The Board reserves the right to amend the calendar based on inclement weather or other circumstances.

The first day of school for Princeton Public Schools is Monday, Aug. 30, 2027.

When is the last day of school for PPS in 2028?

The last day for students is Friday, June 9, 2028. It is an early release day.

When is winter break for PPS?

Winter break runs Friday, Dec. 24 to Friday, Dec. 31. Counting weekends, students are out Friday, Dec. 24 to Sunday, Jan. 2 and go back Monday, Jan. 3.

When is spring break for PPS?

Spring break runs Monday, April 10 to Friday, April 14. Counting weekends, students are out Saturday, April 8 to Sunday, April 16 and go back Monday, April 17.

When is Thanksgiving break for PPS?

Thanksgiving break runs Thursday, Nov. 25 to Friday, Nov. 26. Counting weekends, students are out Thursday, Nov. 25 to Sunday, Nov. 28 and go back Monday, Nov. 29.

Does PPS have early release days in 2027-28?

Yes. Wednesday, Nov. 24 (early dismissal, time not printed), Thursday, Dec. 23 (early dismissal, time not printed) and Friday, June 9 (early dismissal, time not printed) are for every school. Community Park School only: Wednesday, Nov. 17 and Monday, March 27 (times vary by school).
