Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

  • 4-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day weekend. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
  • 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Staff-only day. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Two of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

First snow makeup day (if needed), Tuesday, June 1 (only if one or more snow days occur) and Second snow makeup day (if needed), Friday, May 28 (only if two or more snow days occur).

Also worth knowing

  • School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
  • The calendar prints no testing dates.
  • Some days off may change: Snow day 2 (no school unless needed), May 28 (Becomes a school day if two or more snow days occur during the year) and Snow day 1 (no school unless needed), June 1 (Becomes a school day if any snow day occurs during the year).
  • After the last day, the calendar still shows staff-only day after the last day (June 17). Students are already out.

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, June 16, 2027, with early dismissal.

What the district notes

  • Conference days are early dismissal days for students, and each school sends its own conference details.
  • Eighth grade promotion is Monday, June 14, and Princeton High School graduation is Wednesday, June 16, 2027.
  • The printed monthly student day counts (182 in all) count May 28 and June 1 as school days. With no snow days, both are days off and the year has 180 student days.
  • The Board reserves the right to amend the calendar based on inclement weather or other circumstances.
  • The printed calendar lists the April 13 to 16 conferences for grades PK-8, but the district's online calendar lists them for PK-5, and the middle school calendar shows no early dismissals that week. This page follows the online calendar. Middle school families should check with their school.

The first day of school for Princeton Public Schools is Monday, Aug. 31, 2026.

When is the last day of school for PPS in 2027?

The last day for students is Wednesday, June 16, 2027. It is an early release day.

When is winter break for PPS?

Winter break runs Thursday, Dec. 24 to Friday, Jan. 1. Counting weekends, students are out Thursday, Dec. 24 to Sunday, Jan. 3 and go back Monday, Jan. 4.

When is spring break for PPS?

Spring break runs Friday, March 26 to Friday, April 2. Counting weekends, students are out Friday, March 26 to Sunday, April 4 and go back Monday, April 5.

When is Thanksgiving break for PPS?

Thanksgiving break runs Thursday, Nov. 26 to Friday, Nov. 27. Counting weekends, students are out Thursday, Nov. 26 to Sunday, Nov. 29 and go back Monday, Nov. 30.

Does PPS have early release days in 2026-27?

Yes. Wednesday, Nov. 25 (early dismissal, time not printed), Wednesday, Dec. 23 (early dismissal, time not printed) and Wednesday, June 16 (early dismissal, time not printed) are for every school. Community Park School only: Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Monday, April 12 (times vary by school). Grades PK-8 only: Thursday, Nov. 19, Friday, Nov. 20, Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24 (times vary by school).
