Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 17 to Monday, Oct. 19. Professional duty day (remote, no school for students). Back Tuesday, Oct. 20.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Monday, Jan. 4. End of 2nd quarter, last day before winter break early release, winter break and professional duty day (remote, no school for students). Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15. Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 10.5 days off in a row: Friday, March 19 at early dismissal to Monday, March 29. End of 3rd quarter, last day before spring break early release, spring break, Good Friday and professional duty day (remote, no school for students). Back Tuesday, March 30.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Ten weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• The calendar prints no testing dates. The district posts a separate K-12 Uniform Statewide Assessment Calendar.
• The last day can move. If severe weather days have to be made up, school runs into the makeup days, June 1 to 4. The planned last day is Thursday, May 27; it can fall from Thursday, May 27 to Friday, June 4.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows professional duty day (on campus, no school for students) (May 28) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. The last day is Thursday, May 27, 2027, with early dismissal, as planned. It can fall anywhere from Thursday, May 27 to Friday, June 4: if severe weather days have to be made up, school runs into the makeup days, June 1 to 4.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 10.

The district prints 180 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

Lee County grades in quarters, two to a semester. The calendar prints each quarter's end date and day count: 85 days in the first semester and 95 in the second.

What the district notes

• If severe weather closes schools for longer, the district shifts the calendar to make up the days.
• Jewish holidays on the calendar begin at sundown the day before the listed date.
• The calendar marks Oct. 5 to 9 and Feb. 8 to 12 as FTE weeks, the weeks Florida counts enrolled students.
• Early dismissal times are not printed on the calendar. Regular bell times differ by school: elementary and K-8 schools start at 7:30 or 8:40 a.m., middle schools at 9:45 a.m.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the Lee County Instructional Calendar page and the district's District Instructional Calendar feed.
