Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 4.5-day weekend: Wednesday, Oct. 21 at early dismissal to Sunday, Oct. 25. Professional day, early release and Parent-teacher conferences (no school). Back Monday, Oct. 26.
• 4.5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 25 at early dismissal to Sunday, Nov. 29. Early dismissal before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Monday, Jan. 4. Winter break and professional day (no school). Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Professional day (no school). Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15. Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, March 20 to Monday, March 29. Spring break and professional day (no school). Back Tuesday, March 30.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Ten weeks have fewer than five school days, and three weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Presidents Day or built-in snow day, Monday, Feb. 15 (a holiday unless needed as a snow day) and Professional day or built-in snow day, Monday, March 29 (no school for students unless needed as a snow day).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: Presidents Day, Feb. 15 (Becomes a school day if the district needs a snow makeup day) and professional day (no school), March 29 (Becomes a school day if the district needs a snow makeup day).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The last day is Tuesday, May 25, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 10 to 18.

The district prints 175 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

What the district notes

• This is the calendar for the district's 5-day schools. The 4-day schools (listed on their calendar as 4J, LP, RE, CW and WJSH) and Westwood High School have their own calendars on the District Calendars page.
• Presidents Day (Feb. 15) and the March 29 professional day are built-in snow days: if the district needs them, students have school. Any more snow days are added to the end of the year.
• Professional days with early release (Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Dec. 2, Feb. 3, March 10 and April 14) and early dismissal days let secondary schools out at 1 p.m. and elementary schools at 1:30 p.m. The last day is an early release; the calendar prints no time for it.
• Graduation: Westwood High School graduates May 20; Campbell County High School, Thunder Basin High School and Wright Junior/Senior High graduate May 23.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked our count of every school day against the day counts the district prints. They match.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
