VBCPS early release days

Four early release days in all. One is for every school. The other three are for some schools only.

Where the time varies by school, your school sends its own dismissal time.

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 4-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day weekend. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 26 to Monday, Sept. 28. Staff day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 29.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 31 to Tuesday, Nov. 3. Staff day and Election Day (flex staff day). Back Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Eleven weeks have fewer than five school days, and three weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Six of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Makeup day if schools close in the first quarter, Monday, Nov. 2 (only if schools close for weather or an emergency in the first quarter; otherwise a staff day with no school for students), Makeup day if schools close in the second quarter, Monday, Jan. 25 (only if schools close for weather or an emergency in the second quarter; otherwise a staff day with no school for students) and Makeup day if schools close in the third quarter, Friday, April 9 (only if schools close for weather or an emergency in the third quarter; otherwise a staff day with no school for students).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• The calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: staff day, Nov. 2 (Designated makeup day: becomes a school day if schools close for weather or an emergency that quarter), staff day, Jan. 25 (Designated makeup day: becomes a school day if schools close for weather or an emergency that quarter) and staff day, April 9 (Designated makeup day: becomes a school day if schools close for weather or an emergency that quarter).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows Flex staff day (June 14) and Juneteenth (observed) (June 18). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 11, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 14 to 21.

Grading periods

VBCPS grades in four quarters. The calendar prints each quarter's dates; it prints no day counts or report card dates. High schools on a 4x4 block schedule also post their own marking periods on the district calendar.

What the district notes

• If schools close for weather or an emergency, the superintendent designates makeup days, which may include staff days or holidays. Fourth quarter makeup days are set by the superintendent.
• High school students have adjusted dismissal June 8 to 10, and all students have adjusted dismissal on the last day, June 11. The calendar prints no dismissal times; your school will share them.
• High school graduations run June 8 to 12, 2027.
• The calendar was adopted Nov. 12, 2024 and revised July 15, 2026. This page follows the revised version.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the VBCPS Calendar page, the VBCPS School Year Calendar feed and the VBCPS A/B Day feed.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
