Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 4-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 7. No school (student holiday) and Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Indigenous Peoples' Day. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 6 days off in a row: Thursday, Oct. 29 to Tuesday, Nov. 3. No school (teacher workdays). Back Wednesday, Nov. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Nov. 7 to Monday, Nov. 9. Diwali. Back Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Fifteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and three weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Five of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Thursday, Oct. 29 to Friday, Oct. 30: No school (teacher workdays)
• Monday, Nov. 2 to Tuesday, Nov. 3: No school (teacher workdays)
• Monday, Jan. 25: No school (teacher workday)
• Monday, March 8: No school (teacher workday)
• Monday, April 12: No school (teacher workday)

Makeup days

The calendar names no bad-weather makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• The calendar prints no testing windows.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows Juneteenth (June 18). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 17, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 11, 2027.

Grading periods

LCPS grades in quarters. The calendar prints each quarter's end date and its number of school days.

What the district notes

• The School Board adopted this calendar on Feb. 25, 2025. It follows School Board Policy 7040 for holidays and gives teachers 14 professional development days.
• Several student holidays (Oct. 29 and 30, Nov. 2 and 3, Jan. 25, March 8 and April 12) are teacher workdays, so school buildings are staffed but there are no classes.
• Middle and high schools run on alternating A and B days, and elementary schools on alternating A and B weeks. The School Calendar page lists both schedules.
