Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 25 to Sunday, Sept. 27. Parent community day (no school). Back Monday, Sept. 28.
• 5-day weekend: Thursday, Oct. 8 to Monday, Oct. 12. Fall break. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 19 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 to Tuesday, Jan. 5. Staff professional learning day (no school), winter break and staff days after winter break (no school). Back Wednesday, Jan. 6.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15. Parent community day (no school) and Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Thirteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Friday, Dec. 18: staff professional learning day (no school)
• Monday, Jan. 4 to Tuesday, Jan. 5: staff days after winter break (no school)
• Friday, April 23: staff professional learning day (no school)

Makeup days

The district calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff work day after the last day (May 28) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The last day is Thursday, May 27, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 18.

Grading periods

The calendar ends the 2nd nine weeks on Dec. 18, a staff professional learning day with no school, so its last school day is Dec. 17.

What the district notes

• Meet the Teacher and open house nights are Aug. 11 at Bonham and San Marcos High School, Aug. 12 at the middle schools and Aug. 13 at the elementary schools (K-5).
• Parent community days (Sept. 25 and Feb. 12) are student holidays.
• Class of 2027 graduation is Friday, May 28, the day after the last day of school.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar image twice: once whole, cell by cell against its legend, and once on zoomed crops of each month. Then we checked the first and last day and every day off except Labor Day against the SMCISD District Calendar events and the SMCISD District Calendar page. The other dates rest on the district's calendar alone.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
