Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 26 to Monday, Sept. 28. No school (staff development day). Back Tuesday, Sept. 29.
• 9.5 days off in a row: Friday, Oct. 9 at early dismissal to Sunday, Oct. 18. Early release, end of 1st grading period and fall break. Back Monday, Oct. 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 24 to Monday, Oct. 26. No school (staff development day). Back Tuesday, Oct. 27.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Monday, Jan. 4. Early release before winter break and winter break. Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15. Bad weather day (no school unless needed) and Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Eleven weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Two of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Bad weather day, Friday, Feb. 12 (a student holiday unless needed after a weather closure) and Bad weather day, Monday, March 29 (a student holiday unless needed after a weather closure).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: Bad weather day (no school unless needed), Feb. 12 (May become a school day if weather closes school earlier in the year) and Bad weather day (no school unless needed), March 29 (May become a school day if weather closes school earlier in the year).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff development day (after the last day) (May 26) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026. The last day is Tuesday, May 25, 2027, with early dismissal.

The district prints 170 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

Rockwall ISD counts 170 instructional days: 79 in the fall semester and 91 in the spring.

What the district notes

• The calendar marks four all-school early releases (Oct. 9, Dec. 18, March 12 and May 25) but prints no dismissal time. Check your school's bell schedule.
• Feb. 12 and March 29 are bad weather days, listed with the student holidays. Plan on them as days off, but they may become school days if weather closes school earlier in the year.
• Fall break, Oct. 12 to 16, includes two staff exchange days (Oct. 12 and 13) and Fair Day (Oct. 14); Thanksgiving break includes three exchange days (Nov. 23 to 25). There is no school for students on any of them.
• Rockwall-Heath High School and Rockwall High School both hold graduation on Wednesday, June 2.
• The district also posts an A/B calendar that letters every school day A or B.
