Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 9 to Monday, Oct. 12. Student holiday, staff day and fall holiday. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Monday, Jan. 4. Early release before winter break, winter break and staff day (no school). Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15. Student holiday, staff day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, March 13 to Sunday, March 21. Spring break. Back Monday, March 22.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, March 26 to Monday, March 29. Spring holiday and Bad weather day. Back Tuesday, March 30.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Ten weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Monday, Jan. 4: staff day (no school)

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar lists no district-wide parent-teacher conference days.
• The calendar lists no testing dates. LISD links the state testing calendar from its Calendars page.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026. The last day is Friday, May 21, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 11.

The district prints 174 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

LISD grades in nine-week periods. The first semester has 84 school days and the second has 90.

What the district notes

• School hours are new for 2026-27. High school runs 8:50 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., middle school 8:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. and elementary school 7:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Half-day pre-K runs 7:40 to 10:51 a.m. or 11:54 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
