Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 25 to Sunday, Sept. 27. Professional learning day (no school for students). Back Monday, Sept. 28.
• 10 days off in a row: Friday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 18. Teacher planning day (no school for students) and fall break. Back Monday, Oct. 19.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 18.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Tuesday, Jan. 5. Early release, end of 1st semester, winter break, professional learning day (no school for students) and teacher planning day (no school for students). Back Wednesday, Jan. 6.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15. Professional learning day (no school for students) and Presidents' Day holiday. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 10 days off in a row: Friday, March 5 to Sunday, March 14. Teacher planning day (no school for students) and spring break. Back Monday, March 15.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28. Good Friday holiday. Back Monday, March 29.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, April 30 to Sunday, May 2. Student and teacher holiday. Back Monday, May 3.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Twelve weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Six of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Weather makeup day (if needed), Monday, Feb. 15 and Weather makeup day (if needed), Friday, April 30.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• Some days off may change: Presidents' Day holiday, Feb. 15 (Marked as an inclement weather makeup day: may become a school day if one is needed) and student and teacher holiday, April 30 (Marked as an inclement weather makeup day: may become a school day if one is needed).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher workdays (after the last day) (May 27) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, May 26, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run July 30 to Aug. 10.

The district prints 171 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

FBISD grades in nine-week periods, two per semester. The calendar prints each period's dates and school days (81 in the fall semester, 90 in the spring).

What the district notes

• The School Board approved this version of the calendar on Sept. 28, 2026. It sets the last day of school on Wednesday, May 26.
• Texas counts school time in minutes. FBISD builds in a bank of extra minutes (940 for elementary, 1,060 for middle and 960 for high school) that can cover bad weather and other health and safety closures. The district may revise the calendar, with Board approval, to meet the state minimum.
• Regular school hours: elementary 8:05 a.m. to 3:25 p.m., middle 8:50 a.m. to 4:10 p.m., high 7:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
