Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 9 to Monday, Oct. 12. Professional development day (no school) and Holiday or weather makeup day. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Monday, Jan. 4. Student half day before winter break, winter break and professional development day (no school). Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15. Professional development day or weather makeup day and Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 11 days off in a row: Friday, March 26 to Monday, April 5. Spring break and spring break ends: professional development or weather makeup day. Back Tuesday, April 6.
• 2.5-day weekend: Saturday, May 22 to Sunday, May 23. A regular weekend. Monday, May 24, an early release day.

One early release on a Friday or Monday makes a 2.5-day weekend.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Twelve weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Two of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Weather makeup day or holiday, Monday, Oct. 12 (a holiday unless needed to make up a weather closure), Weather makeup day or professional development day, Friday, Feb. 12 (no school for students unless needed to make up a weather closure) and Weather makeup day or last day of spring break, Monday, April 5 (no school for students unless needed to make up a weather closure).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: Holiday or weather makeup day, Oct. 12 (A holiday unless the district needs it to make up a weather closure), professional development day or weather makeup day, Feb. 12 (No school for students unless the district needs it to make up a weather closure) and spring break ends: professional development or weather makeup day, April 5 (No school for students unless the district needs it to make up a weather closure).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows professional development day (flex day) (May 26) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026. The last day is Tuesday, May 25, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run July 28 to Aug. 4.

Grading periods

What the district notes

• Oct. 12, Feb. 12 and April 5 are weather makeup days. Students have no school on them unless the district needs a day to make up for a weather closure, so watch for district announcements after any closing.
• The calendar lists spring break as March 26 to April 5. April 5 is also a professional development day and a weather makeup day, so students return Tuesday, April 6, unless that day is needed for makeup.
• Early release days (Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 28, Feb. 3 and March 3) and student half days (Dec. 18, May 24 and May 25) are printed without dismissal times. Check your school's schedule.
• Interim reports: Sept. 9, Nov. 17, Feb. 8 and April 20. Report cards: Oct. 21, Jan. 6, March 17 and May 28.
• Graduation: Airport High School on May 25 and Brookland-Cayce High School on May 26.
• Lexington Two runs a modified year-round calendar under South Carolina law (Section 59-1-425), which is why school starts in early August and ends in late May.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the Spanish edition of the calendar (page 2 of the PDF) and the Lexington Two School Year Calendars page.
