Two early releases on a Friday or Monday make a 2.5-day weekend.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Nine weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Tuesday, Oct. 13: staff development day, no school for students
• Tuesday, Jan. 19: staff development day, no school for students
• Tuesday, Feb. 16: staff development day, no school for students

Makeup days

The calendar sets no separate makeup days. Oct. 12 and 13 and Feb. 15 and 16 are days off that may become makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
• Some days off may change: Day off, Oct. 12 (May become a makeup day if school is canceled earlier in the year), staff development day, no school for students, Oct. 13 (May become a makeup day if school is canceled earlier in the year), Presidents Day, Feb. 15 (May become a makeup day if school is canceled earlier in the year) and staff development day, no school for students, Feb. 16 (May become a makeup day if school is canceled earlier in the year).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows last day for teachers (June 9). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The last day is Tuesday, June 8, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 10.

What the district notes

• Any non-instructional day, including Saturdays, may be used as a makeup day after a school cancellation.
• HCS can use up to five eLearning days for emergencies such as bad weather or power outages. They are not planned days on the calendar.
• Interim reports go out Sept. 18 and Dec. 3, 2026, and Feb. 24 and May 7, 2027. Report cards go out by Oct. 29, 2026, and by Jan. 22, April 2 and June 14, 2027.
• End-of-course tests (English II reading, algebra, biology and U.S. history) fall in the last 15 days of each semester, English II writing in the last 20, and high school final exams on the last two days of each semester.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the district's Spanish edition of the calendar and the HCS Calendar page.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
