Add the GCS calendar to your phone

On an iPhone

In Outlook

Open the downloaded file, or in Outlook on the web go to Add calendar, then Upload from file.

These files are a copy of the calendar today. If the district changes a date, download the file again.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 16 to Sunday, Oct. 18. Teacher professional development day (no school for students). Back Monday, Oct. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 31 to Tuesday, Nov. 3. Teacher professional development day (no school for students) and Election Day. Back Wednesday, Nov. 4.
• 5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 25 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Monday, Jan. 4. Half day, end of 2nd quarter, winter break and teacher professional development day (no school for students). Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15. Presidents' Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, March 12 to Sunday, March 14. Teacher professional development day (no school for students). Back Monday, March 15.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, March 20 to Monday, March 29. Spring break and student and teacher holiday. Back Tuesday, March 30.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, April 16 to Sunday, April 18. Student and teacher holiday. Back Monday, April 19.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Twelve weeks have fewer than five school days, and three weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Friday, Oct. 16: teacher professional development day (no school for students)
• Monday, Nov. 2: teacher professional development day (no school for students)
• Monday, Jan. 4: teacher professional development day (no school for students)
• Friday, March 12: teacher professional development day (no school for students)

Makeup days

Makeup day 1 (if needed), Friday, March 12, Makeup day 2 (if needed), Monday, March 29 and Makeup day 3 (if needed), Friday, April 16.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12) and Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• The student calendar prints no testing dates. GCS posts a separate 2026-27 Testing Calendar.
• Some days off may change: teacher professional development day (no school for students), March 12 (Makeup Day 1: a school day only if the district announces it), student and teacher holiday, March 29 (Makeup Day 2: a school day only if the district announces it) and student and teacher holiday, April 16 (Makeup Day 3: a school day only if the district announces it).

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. The last day is Thursday, May 27, 2027, with early dismissal.

Grading periods

GCS grades in quarters. The calendar prints each quarter's last day and the report card dates; the 4th quarter report card is posted in Parent Backpack.

What the district notes

• On a bad-weather day, GCS uses eLearning on that day. The three makeup days are used only if eLearning is not possible or the five allowed eLearning days are used up, and they stay days off unless the district announces otherwise.
• 4K students start on a staggered schedule Aug. 11 to 14, and 4K buses start Aug. 17.
• High school graduations run May 24 to 27.
• Students who miss school for a religious observance can make up the work without penalty.
• GCS calls this a year-round modified calendar under South Carolina law (Section 59-1-425). It covers all 4K-12 students.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the GCS Calendars page, the district's 2026-27 iCal file and the GCS makeup days announcement.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
