Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 7.
• 4.5-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 8 at early dismissal to Tuesday, Oct. 12. End of 1st quarter (half day) and October break. Back Wednesday, Oct. 13.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Nov. 28. Fall break (Thanksgiving week). Back Monday, Nov. 29.
• 18.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 17 at early dismissal to Tuesday, Jan. 4. End of 1st semester (half day), winter break and teacher workday (no school for students). Back Wednesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 15 to Monday, Jan. 17. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 18.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 19 to Monday, Feb. 21. Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 22.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, March 11 to Tuesday, March 14. March long weekend (no school) and professional development day (no school for students). Back Wednesday, March 15.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, April 8 to Monday, April 17. Spring break. Back Tuesday, April 18.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, May 27 to Monday, May 29. Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, May 30.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Ten weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Two of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Tuesday, Jan. 4: teacher workday (no school for students)
• Tuesday, March 14: professional development day (no school for students)

Makeup days

Weather makeup day (if needed), Monday, Nov. 22, Weather makeup day (if needed), Monday, Dec. 20 and Weather makeup day (if needed), Monday, April 10.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The academic calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: fall break (Thanksgiving week), Nov. 22 to 26 (Nov. 22 is a weather makeup day: no school unless it is needed to make up a closure), winter break, Dec. 20 to Jan. 3 (Dec. 20 may be used as a weather makeup day) and spring break, April 10 to 17 (April 10 may be used as a weather makeup day).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher workday (June 2). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2027. The last day is Wednesday, May 31, 2028, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 9.

The district prints 180 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

CCSD prints four quarters (43, 42, 46 and 49 days), 180 student days in all.

What the district notes

• Progress reports go home the weeks of Sept. 13, Nov. 8, Feb. 7 and May 1. Report cards go home the weeks of Oct. 18, Jan. 10, March 20 and June 5.
• CCSD may use up to five eLearning days for emergencies such as bad weather or utility outages. eLearning days are used before weather makeup days and are not planned on the calendar.
• The district's dated list does not print Monday, March 13, 2028 on its own line. Its quarter day counts and the calendar grid in the district's 2027-28 calendar presentation both make it a day off, the start of a four-day weekend with the March 14 professional development day.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, line by line. Then we checked each one against the CCSD Academic Calendar page, the CCSD 2027-28 Calendar Comparison and the CCSD 2027-28 Academic Calendar Presentation.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. The district's printed day counts match our own count of its calendar. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
