- School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12) and Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- The calendar lists no testing dates.

Grading periods
The calendar lists Oct. 16 as the last day of the 1st quarter, but Oct. 15 and 16 are fall break, so the last school day of the quarter is Wednesday, Oct. 14. The 2nd quarter ends with the 1st semester on Dec. 18, and the 4th with the year on May 25.

What the district notes
- Early release Fridays: kindergarten through grade 12 leave one hour early every Friday from Sept. 11 to May 14 (elementary and intermediate at 1:55 p.m., middle school, 9th Grade Center and high school at 2:51 p.m.), except Dec. 18 and Jan. 8. Pre-K has no early release Fridays.
- Friday, Oct. 30 is a no-school day for students with parent-teacher conferences from 8 to 11 a.m., after evening conferences on Thursday, Oct. 29.
- April 16 and April 19 are no-school days that become bad weather makeup days if needed, so they may turn into school days.
- Meet the Teacher is Monday, Aug. 17, two days before the first day.
