On an iPhone

GJPS early release days

The district calendar lists no early release days. Every school day on it is a full day.

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Professional development day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 17 to Tuesday, Oct. 20. Conference comp day and staff work day. Back Wednesday, Oct. 21.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Nov. 7 to Monday, Nov. 9. Professional development day. Back Tuesday, Nov. 10.
• 5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 25 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Fourteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and two weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Seven of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

The district calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12) and Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar marks one religious and cultural observances on school days. School is open. The list is below.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference dates. It gives two conference comp days with no school, Oct. 19 and March 26.
• The district calendar lists no testing dates.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff work day (May 28) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026. The last day is Thursday, May 27, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 17 to 19.

Grading periods

The calendar prints the last day of each quarter; each quarter starts on the next school day.

Religious and cultural observances

The calendar marks these religious and cultural observances. School is open on each.

What the district notes

• Graduation is Saturday, May 29, 2027, two days after the last day of school.
• The calendar says GJPS staff will be mindful of all religious holidays when planning instruction and assessment, and that the calendar is subject to change.
