Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Columbus Day. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 4-day weekend: Thursday, Nov. 26 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 11 days off in a row: Thursday, Dec. 24 to Sunday, Jan. 3. Winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 21. Winter recess (Presidents' Day week). Back Monday, Feb. 22.
• 5-day weekend: Thursday, March 25 to Monday, March 29. Easter break and Snow makeup day 2 (end of Easter break). Back Tuesday, March 30.
• 11 days off in a row: Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, May 2. Spring break. Back Monday, May 3.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, May 28 to Monday, May 31. Snow makeup day 1 (Memorial Day weekend) and Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, June 1.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, June 18 to Sunday, June 20. Juneteenth (observed). Back Monday, June 21.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Fifteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and three weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

One of the days off is a staff day. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Snow makeup day 1, if needed, Friday, May 28 (a school day if the district closes for an emergency on one day) and Snow makeup day 2, if needed, Monday, March 29 (a school day if the district closes for emergencies on two days).

• Some days off may change: Snow makeup day 2 (end of Easter break), March 29 (Becomes a school day if the district closes for emergencies on two days) and Snow makeup day 1 (Memorial Day weekend), May 28 (Becomes a school day if the district closes for an emergency on one day).

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 25, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 31 to Sept. 1.

Grading periods

These are the middle and high school (WMS and WHS) marking periods. Elementary progress reports come out Dec. 1, March 10 and June 25.

What the district notes

• The calendar counts 180 school days plus three superintendent's conference days (Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Nov. 3).
• Classes end early at the high school and middle school: the last day of classes is Monday, June 7, for grade 12 and Friday, June 11, for grades 6-11. Regents exams follow, and the WHS and WMS fourth quarter ends June 25.
• Graduations: Wantagh Middle School 8th grade on Thursday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m. (8th graders dismiss at 11:22 a.m. that day) and Wantagh High School on Thursday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m.
• On a delayed opening, elementary students arrive at 10:15 a.m. (one-hour delay) or 11:15 a.m. (two-hour delay); WMS period 1 starts at 9:21 a.m. or period 2 at 10:11 a.m.; WHS period 1 starts at 8:37 a.m. or 9:37 a.m.
