Eleven early release days in all. Three are for every school. The other eight are for some schools only.

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Schools closed. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Staff in-service day (no school for students). Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 4-day weekend: Thursday, Nov. 5 to Sunday, Nov. 8. NJEA Convention. Back Monday, Nov. 9.
• 4.5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 25 at early dismissal to Sunday, Nov. 29. Day before Thanksgiving early release and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 11.5 days off in a row: Wednesday, Dec. 23 at early dismissal to Sunday, Jan. 3. Day before winter break early release and winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Tuesday, Feb. 16. Presidents' Day and staff in-service day (no school for students). Back Wednesday, Feb. 17.
• 10 days off in a row: Friday, March 26 to Sunday, April 4. Spring break. Back Monday, April 5.
• 6 days off in a row: Friday, May 28 to Wednesday, June 2. Emergency closing day 3 (no school unless needed), Memorial Day, Emergency closing day 2 (no school unless needed) and Emergency closing day 1 (no school unless needed). Back Thursday, June 3.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, June 18 to Sunday, June 20. Juneteenth. Back Monday, June 21.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Sixteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and two weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Tuesday, Feb. 16: staff in-service day (no school for students)
• Wednesday, March 10: staff in-service day (no school for students)

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• Some days off may change: spring break, March 26 to April 2 (If more than three emergency closings occur, spring recess days become school days as needed, in this order: April 2, April 1, March 31, March 30), Emergency closing day 3 (no school unless needed), May 28 (Becomes a school day if a third emergency closing occurs (order: June 2, June 1, May 28)), Emergency closing day 2 (no school unless needed), June 1 (Becomes a school day if a second emergency closing occurs (order: June 2, June 1, May 28)) and Emergency closing day 1 (no school unless needed), June 2 (Becomes a school day if one emergency closing occurs (the first day used)).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff in-service day (after the last day) (June 24). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, June 23, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Sept. 1 to 2.

What the district notes

• The calendar counts 180 school days. Monthly counts: September 18, October 21, November 17, December 17, January 19, February 18, March 18, April 19, May 19, June 14.
• May 28, June 1 and June 2 are emergency closing days: no school unless snow or emergency closings use them, in this order: June 2, June 1, May 28. After that, spring recess days become school days: April 2, April 1, March 31, then March 30.
• Eighth grade promotion is Tuesday, June 22, and Montgomery High School graduation is Wednesday, June 23, 2027.
• The district also posts an A/B day schedule and a 6-day rotation calendar for 2026-27 on its calendar page; they follow this calendar's school days.
• The Board of Education reserves the right to amend this calendar.
