Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 4-day weekend: Thursday, Nov. 5 to Sunday, Nov. 8. NJEA Convention. Back Monday, Nov. 9.
• 4.5-day weekend: Wednesday, Nov. 25 at early dismissal to Sunday, Nov. 29. Day before Thanksgiving early release and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 11.5 days off in a row: Wednesday, Dec. 23 at early dismissal to Sunday, Jan. 3. Day before winter break early release and winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 5-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Wednesday, Feb. 17. Mid-winter break and Mid-winter break (makeup day 1 if needed). Back Thursday, Feb. 18.

• 5-day weekend: Friday, May 28 to Tuesday, June 1. Staff in-service day, Memorial Day and Memorial Day recess (makeup day 2 if needed). Back Wednesday, June 2.
• 2.5-day weekend: Saturday, June 19 to Sunday, June 20. A regular weekend. Monday, June 21, an early release day.

One early release on a Friday or Monday makes a 2.5-day weekend.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Twelve weeks have fewer than five school days, and two weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

One of the days off is a staff day. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Makeup day 1 (if needed), Wednesday, Feb. 17 (only if there is an emergency closing before Feb. 17) and Makeup day 2 (if needed), Tuesday, June 1 (only if there are two emergency closings before June 1).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12), Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) and Juneteenth (Friday, June 18). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference dates.
• The calendar prints no testing dates. The district posts a separate BTSD Testing Calendar.
• Some days off may change: Mid-winter break (makeup day 1 if needed), Feb. 17 (Becomes a full school day if there is an emergency closing before Feb. 17) and Memorial Day recess (makeup day 2 if needed), June 1 (Becomes a full school day if there are two emergency closings before June 1).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff days after the last day (June 23). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. The last day is Tuesday, June 22, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Sept. 1 to 2.

What the district notes

• Makeup days are full school days. If Feb. 17 and June 1 are both used and more days are needed, days are added to the end of the year, starting June 23.
• William Annin Middle School graduation is Monday, June 21, and Ridge High School graduation is Tuesday, June 22.
• The calendar counts 180 student days. It is labeled "Revised" and was updated Aug. 7, 2026.
