On an iPhone

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 2.5-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 11 at early dismissal to Sunday, Sept. 13. Early release (staff professional development). Back Monday, Sept. 14.
• 2.5-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 11. A regular weekend. Monday, Oct. 12, an early release day.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 31 to Monday, Nov. 2. Regional staff development day. Back Tuesday, Nov. 3.
• 5.5 days off in a row: Tuesday, Nov. 24 at early dismissal to Sunday, Nov. 29. Early release before Thanksgiving, teacher work day and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 12 days off in a row: Wednesday, Dec. 23 to Sunday, Jan. 3. Holiday break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 2.5-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Sunday, Jan. 17. A regular weekend. Monday, Jan. 18, an early release day.
• 2.5-day weekend: Friday, Jan. 22 at early dismissal to Sunday, Jan. 24. Early release, end of 1st semester. Back Monday, Jan. 25.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15. Professional development day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 10 days off in a row: Friday, March 26 to Sunday, April 4. Teacher work day and spring break. Back Monday, April 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, May 29 to Monday, May 31. Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, June 1.

Four early releases on a Friday or Monday make a 2.5-day weekend.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Seven weeks have fewer than five school days, and two weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12), Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 18). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar lists no conference days. Schools set their own.
• The last day can move. June 11, or as late as June 21 if weather closures use the makeup days (June 15 to 18 and June 21). The planned last day is Friday, June 11; it can fall from Friday, June 11 to Monday, June 21.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows staff records day (June 14). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 11, 2027, with early dismissal, as planned. It can fall anywhere from Friday, June 11 to Monday, June 21: June 11, or as late as June 21 if weather closures use the makeup days (June 15 to 18 and June 21).

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Sept. 1 to 3.

Grading periods

The calendar prints the end of each quarter; the first semester ends Jan. 22.

What the district notes

• The calendar holds five makeup days after the last day, June 15 to 18 and June 21, used only if school closes for weather more than the law allows. If none are needed, school ends with a half day on Friday, June 11.
• If school closes for weather on an early release day, the district may move that early release and will say when.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked the first and last day, the holiday break and the makeup days against the TCAPS Calendar page and the TCAPS announcement of the 2026-27 calendar. The other dates rest on the district's calendar alone.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
