Teacher workdays: no school for students
Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days
The district calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.
Also worth knowing
- School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12), Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) and Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day) (Monday, Feb. 15). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 31) and Juneteenth (observed) (June 18). Students are already out.
First and last day of school
The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026. The last day is Friday, May 28, 2027.
Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 10 to 12.
Grading periods
The calendar prints 43, 43, 44 and 44 days (174 in all). Our counts for the 2nd and 4th match; our counts for the 1st and 3rd nine weeks are one lower (42 and 43) because the district's handbook says students do not report on the Oct. 9 and March 8 professional development days.

What the district notes
- Oct. 9, Jan. 4 and March 8 are district-wide professional development days: students do not report to school.
- Kindergarten students report Aug. 13, 14 and 17, and pre-K students report Aug. 18, 19 and 20, after mandatory pre-K screening Aug. 13, 14 and 17. Check with your school for your child's day.
- Final exams run May 20-28.
- Graduation: Gueydan High School May 13; Abbeville and Kaplan high schools May 14; Erath and North Vermilion high schools May 15.
