Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days
The calendar names no makeup days. The district has 10 NTI (non-traditional instruction) days and 5 traditional snow days that it may use at its discretion. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.
Also worth knowing
- School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 11), Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11) and Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day) (Monday, Feb. 21). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- The calendar lists no testing dates.
- After the last day, the calendar still shows staff days after the last day (May 25) and Memorial Day (May 29). Students are already out.

Grading periods
The calendar marks the end of each grading term with a triangle; it prints no start dates, so each term starts on the next school day.

What the district notes
- On snow days the district may use one of its 10 NTI days, when students learn from home, or one of its 5 traditional snow days.
- Winter break runs Dec. 20 to Dec. 31, and Monday, Jan. 3 is a teacher workday, so students return Tuesday, Jan. 4.
- Kindergarten starts with phase-in days on Aug. 23 and 24; preschool phases in later, and preschool's last day is May 19.
- Election Day in November is a staff development day and the May primary election day is a flex staff development day; students have no school on either.
