Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Yom Kippur. Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Fall break. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, Nov. 13 to Sunday, Nov. 15. Institute day, no school for students. Back Monday, Nov. 16.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Parent-teacher conferences, no school for students and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 to Sunday, Jan. 3. Grading day, no school and winter break. Monday, Jan. 4, an early release day.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Thirteen weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Two of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

Grading day may become a makeup day, Friday, Dec. 18 (if makeup days are needed).

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• Days off for some schools only: Wednesday, Oct. 7, Freshmen only, Wednesday, April 7, Seniors, and sophomores and juniors without extended testing time only and Thursday, April 8, Seniors, and freshmen without extended testing time only. Other schools are open. The list is under Vacations and holidays.
• Some days off may change: Grading day, no school, Dec. 18 (The district says grading days are frequently used as makeup days and family travel is highly discouraged).

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The last day is Friday, June 4, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 17 to 18.

Grading periods

The first semester ends with the 2nd quarter on Dec. 17 and the second semester with the 4th quarter on June 4.

What the district notes

• Late arrival days: Sept. 22 and 23, Oct. 8 and 9, Jan. 21 and 22, March 4 and 5, and April 15 and 16. School starts at 11 a.m. at the Northfield campus and 11:20 a.m. at the Winnetka campus.
• Seniors' last day is Wednesday, May 19. Graduation is Sunday, May 23, at NOW Arena (time to be announced).
• Freshman Go-to-School Night is Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Northfield campus.
• The calendar's monthly day counts add up to 182 (82 in the first semester and 100 in the second). They include the four staff institute days and the two parent-teacher conference days, when students have no school.
