On an iPhone

DCSD vacations and holidays, 2026-27

Every day with no school for students, from the first day to the last: 10 entries and 34 weekdays in all.

Remote school days

School happens at home on this day. It counts as a school day, and students learn from home.

DCSD early release days

The 2026-27 calendar prints no early release or half days. Every school day on it is a full day.

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 11. Teachers' virtual workday and fall break. Back Monday, Oct. 12.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Monday, Jan. 4. Winter break and teacher planning day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 21. February break. Back Monday, Feb. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, March 13 to Monday, March 15. Professional development day. Back Tuesday, March 16.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, April 3 to Sunday, April 11. Spring break. Back Monday, April 12.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Five weeks have fewer than five school days, and six weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12) and Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The calendar marks one religious and cultural observances on school days. School is open. The list is below.
• The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. Schools set their own.
• A remote school day: Tuesday, Nov. 3. It counts as a school day, but students learn at home. Plan for a child at home.
• Some days off may change: Thanksgiving break, Nov. 23 to 27 (Nov. 23 and 24 are inclement weather days 1 and 2: they may become school days if the district needs to make up days) and spring break, April 5 to 9 (April 5 and 6 are inclement weather days 1 and 2: they may become school days if the district needs to make up days).
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher post-planning day (May 28) and Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 3, 2026. The last day is Thursday, May 27, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run July 27 to 31.

Grading periods

DeKalb grades in two semesters of two terms each. Report cards come out after each term, on the dates the district's Grade Reporting Calendar lists.

Religious and cultural observances

The calendar marks these religious and cultural observances. School is open on each.

What the district notes

• Nov. 3 (Election Day) is an Independent Learner/Professional Development Day. The calendar counts it as one of November's 16 instructional days while teachers have professional development, and unlike the teacher workdays it is not marked "Students do not report." The calendar does not say where students work that day; this page lists it as a learn-at-home day. Check with your school.
• The calendar marks two inclement weather days in each of Thanksgiving break (Nov. 23 and 24) and spring break (April 5 and 6). It does not say which pair is used first.
• The calendar prints 180 instructional days: 89 in the first semester and 91 in the second.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar image twice: once whole, cell by cell against its legend, and once on zoomed crops of each month. Then we checked each one against the DeKalb Official School Calendars page, the Spanish edition of the calendar, the district events calendar, the 2026-2027 Grade Reporting Calendar and the 2026-2027 District Assessment Calendar.
