Long weekends and breaks
Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.
- 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 7.
- 2.5-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 18 to Sunday, Sept. 19. A regular weekend. Monday, Sept. 20, an early release day.
- 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 17. Indigenous Peoples' Day, teacher professional learning day and fall break. Back Monday, Oct. 18.

Teacher workdays: no school for students
Five of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days
The calendar prints no weather makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.
Also worth knowing
- School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
- The calendar prints no testing windows.
- After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 29), teacher post-planning day (May 30) and Juneteenth (June 19). Students are already out.

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 2, 2027. The last day is Friday, May 26, 2028.
Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run July 26 to 30.

What the district notes
- The calendar prints the early release day but no dismissal time. Check your school's early release time.
- APS calls the Feb. 22 to 25 break "Winter Break" and the break from Dec. 20 to 31 "December Break". With Presidents Day on Feb. 21, students are off for nine days in a row.
