Teacher workdays: no school for students
Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days
The calendar names no makeup dates. If severe weather closes schools and more time is still needed after other options, OCPS adds makeup days at the end of the school year. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.
Also worth knowing
- School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 9) and Veterans Day (Friday, Nov. 10). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- The calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
- The calendar prints no testing windows. OCPS posts them on its separate Testing Calendar.
- After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 28) and Post planning for teachers (May 29). Students are already out.
First and last day of school
The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 10, 2028. The last day is Friday, May 25, 2029.
Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 2 to 9.
Grading periods
OCPS grades in four marking periods. The second semester starts Jan. 9.

What the district notes
- If storms close schools, the superintendent may first waive some makeup time or use other options, such as longer school days, so the district meets the state's required hours. Only if more time is still needed are makeup days added after May 25, and post planning then follows the last day of classes.
- Teachers have a professional development day on Aug. 4, during pre-planning.
- Winter break runs two full weeks, Dec. 25 to Jan. 5, and Monday, Jan. 8 is a teacher workday, so students return Tuesday, Jan. 9.
