On an iPhone

On a computer, open Google Calendar, then Settings, then Import & export. Choose the file and the calendar to add it to. The dates show up on your Android phone too.

In Outlook

Open the downloaded file, or in Outlook on the web go to Add calendar, then Upload from file.

These files are a copy of the calendar today. If the district changes a date, download the file again.

Every day with no school for students, from the first day to the last: 13 entries and 34 weekdays in all.

DCSD early release days

The DCSD calendar prints no early release or half days. Most Fridays are PLC days with a delayed start instead (see Calendar notes).

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 7.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 17 to Sunday, Sept. 19. Professional development day. Back Monday, Sept. 20.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 17. Fall break. Back Monday, Oct. 18.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Nov. 28. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 29.
• 18 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 17 to Monday, Jan. 3. Teacher workday and winter break. Back Tuesday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 15 to Monday, Jan. 17. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 18.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Feb. 18 to Monday, Feb. 21. Professional development day and Presidents Day. Back Tuesday, Feb. 22.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, March 18 to Sunday, March 26. Spring break. Back Monday, March 27.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, April 21 to Monday, April 24. Professional development day and Compensation day (no school). Back Tuesday, April 25.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Eleven weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Five of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Friday, Dec. 17: teacher workday
• Monday, Jan. 3: teacher workday
• Friday, Feb. 18: professional development day
• Friday, April 21: professional development day

Makeup days

The calendar names no makeup days. If schools must close, the Board of Education may add school days on Saturdays, during vacations or at the end of the year. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Veterans Day (Thursday, Nov. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days.
• The district calendar prints no testing windows.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher workday (May 26), Memorial Day (May 29) and Juneteenth (June 19). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2027. The last day is Thursday, May 25, 2028.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 10.

Grading periods

The DCSD calendar marks the first day of each semester (Aug. 11 and Jan. 4). It prints no end dates, so each semester is shown running to the last school day before the next one starts.

What the district notes

• Most Fridays are PLC (professional learning community) days with a delayed start: 31 Fridays from Aug. 20 to May 19. Your school sets the start time.
• The calendar counts 173 student days.
• All DCSD schools follow this conventional calendar except Renaissance Elementary Magnet School, Daniel C. Oakes High School, Eagle Academy and the district's charter schools, which set their own calendars.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the DCSD text/list view calendar PDF and the DCSD Academic Calendars page.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
