Teacher workdays: no school for students
Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days
The calendar names no makeup days. It says that if schools must close for more than two days, the Board of Education will amend the calendar to add school days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.
Also worth knowing
- School is open on some federal holidays: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 9) and Veterans Day (Friday, Nov. 10). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- The districtwide calendar prints no testing dates.
- Days off for some schools only: Friday, Nov. 10, grades K-8 only, Thursday, March 1 to Friday, March 2, grades K-8 only and Friday, May 4, grades K-8 only. Other schools are open. The list is under Vacations and holidays.
- After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 28). Students are already out.
First and last day of school
The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 14, 2028. The last day is Friday, May 25, 2029.
Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 7 to 11.
What the district notes
- Yellow K-12 non-contact days (Sept. 22, Nov. 22, Jan. 8, Feb. 20) are no-school days for every student; orange days (Nov. 10, March 1 and 2, May 4) are no school for grades K-8 only, for conferences or other non-contact work.
- Winter break starts Friday, Dec. 22 and runs through Friday, Jan. 5; Monday, Jan. 8 is also a no-school day, so students return Tuesday, Jan. 9.
