SDUHSD early release days

The district's instructional calendar prints no early release or minimum days.

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12. Teacher non-work day (no school). Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 18 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Tuesday, Jan. 5. Winter break and teacher prep and inservice days (no school). Back Wednesday, Jan. 6.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Tuesday, Feb. 16. Presidents' Day weekend (Lincoln Day and Washington Day). Back Wednesday, Feb. 17.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, March 27 to Monday, April 5. Spring break and teacher non-work day (no school). Back Tuesday, April 6.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Eight weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Monday, Oct. 12: teacher non-work day (no school)
• Monday, Jan. 4 to Tuesday, Jan. 5: teacher prep and inservice days (no school)
• Monday, April 5: teacher non-work day (no school)

Makeup days

The district calendar prints no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• The district calendar prints no parent conference days.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 31). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. The last day is Friday, May 28, 2027.

The district prints 180 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

The first semester ends Dec. 18 and the second semester ends May 28.

What the district notes

• The calendar counts 180 student days: 15 in August, 21 in September, 21 in October, 15 in November, 14 in December, 17 in January, 18 in February, 20 in March, 19 in April and 20 in May.
• Teachers have staff inservice days on Aug. 5 and 6 and a prep day on Aug. 7, before school starts, and a prep day on June 1, after it ends.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked every day off and the first and last day against the district's Calendars page and the district's 2026-2027 certificated calendar. The other dates rest on the district's calendar alone.
