Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 19 to Monday, Sept. 21. Staff PD day (no students). Back Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 16.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Sunday, Jan. 3. Minimum day and winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.

• 3.5-day weekend: Friday, May 28 at early dismissal to Monday, May 31. Minimum day and Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, June 1.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Nine weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

One of the days off is a staff day. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Monday, Sept. 21: staff PD day (no students)

Makeup days

The calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows Service day for teachers (no students) (June 11) and Juneteenth (June 18). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026. The last day is Thursday, June 10, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 21 to 25.

Grading periods

High school quarters

The calendar prints the 4th quarter as March 29 to June 10; March 29 starts spring break, so classes in it begin April 5.

TK-8 trimesters

What the district notes

• Back-to-school nights: grades TK-5 Sept. 10, grades 6-8 Sept. 17, PVHS and PVPHS Sept. 24 and RDM Oct. 1. Each is followed by a minimum day for those schools.
• The calendar prints no minimum day dismissal times; each school sets its own.
• High school graduation is Thursday, June 10, the last day. Summer session starts Monday, June 14.
• Students attend 180 days. The green number under each month counts teacher workdays, which include the staff days.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked the first and last days, winter break and spring break against the district's Calendars page. The other dates rest on the district's calendar alone.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
