On an iPhone

Every day with no school for students, from the first day to the last: 11 entries and 31 weekdays in all.

Four early release days in all. Three are for every school. The other one is for some schools only.

Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 3.5-day weekend: Thursday, Oct. 8 at early dismissal to Sunday, Oct. 11. Minimum day and staff development day. Back Monday, Oct. 12.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Parent-teacher conference days and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 16 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Sunday, Jan. 3. Winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Tuesday, Jan. 19. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and staff development day. Back Wednesday, Jan. 20.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 21. February break. Back Monday, Feb. 22.
• 2.5-day weekend: Friday, March 19 at early dismissal to Sunday, March 21. Minimum day. Back Monday, March 22.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, April 3 to Sunday, April 11. Spring break. Back Monday, April 12.
• 3.5-day weekend: Friday, May 28 at early dismissal to Monday, May 31. Minimum day and Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, June 1.

One early release on a Friday or Monday makes a 2.5-day weekend.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Six weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Three of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Friday, Oct. 9: staff development day
• Monday, Nov. 23 to Tuesday, Nov. 24: Parent-teacher conference days
• Tuesday, Jan. 19: staff development day

Makeup days

The district calendar prints no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no testing windows.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows Juneteenth observed (June 18). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, June 2, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 10 to 11.

The district prints 180 instructional days across the quarters. Our count of the calendar matches.

The calendar prints quarter end dates and day counts. It does not say which schools use quarters and which use trimesters; ask your school.

What the district notes

• Parent-teacher conferences can be scheduled any time from Oct. 1 to Nov. 24. Nov. 23 and 24 are conference days with no school.
• On minimum days, students are dismissed at 12:15 p.m. On the last day of school, June 2, elementary schools dismiss at 11:30 a.m.
• The March minimum day moved to Friday, March 19 in a revision effective March 9, 2026. Older copies of the calendar may show another date.
• The calendar counts 180 student days and 186 teacher days.

How we checked these dates

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the LASD District Calendar and Events page and the district calendar in the LASD 2026 Annual Parent Notification.

Every weekday on this page matches its date. The district's printed day counts match our own count of its calendar. If the district changes its calendar, its page is the final word.
