Teacher workdays: no school for students
One of the days off is a staff day. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days
The calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.
Also worth knowing
- School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 11). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
- The calendar prints no testing dates.
- After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher day after school ends (June 16) and Juneteenth (June 19). Students are already out.

Grading periods
LBUSD runs two semesters, each split at a quarter. The calendar prints the first quarter ending Oct. 28 and the third quarter ending March 31, which is also Admission Day, a holiday.

- Back to School Nights: elementary schools Sept. 16, middle schools Sept. 23, high schools Sept. 30. Open houses: elementary schools March 27, middle schools March 28, high schools March 29.
- Elementary conference days (Nov. 2 to 10 and March 7 and 8) are school days; ask your school about the conference schedule.
- Students have 180 school days, and most teachers work 184.
- This is the traditional calendar most LBUSD schools follow. The California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS) and Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science keep their own calendar, which the district lists separately.
