Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

  • 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • 2.5-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 9 at early dismissal to Sunday, Oct. 11. Minimum day. Back Monday, Oct. 12.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

One of the days off is a staff day. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

The calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

  • School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
  • The calendar prints no testing dates.
  • After the last day, the calendar still shows Memorial Day (May 31) and Juneteenth (observed) (June 18). Students are already out.

What the district notes

  • Minimum days are for all students. The calendar prints no dismissal time, so ask your school what time students leave.
  • Report cards: grades 7-12 on Oct. 9, Dec. 18 and March 12; TK-6 on Nov. 13 and March 5; all grades on May 27. Nov. 2, Feb. 22 and May 14 are TK-6 report card prep days.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the district's Spanish edition of the Traditional Calendar, the district's 2026-2027 School Year Calendar for all tracks (board approval 11/19/24) and the EGUSD Calendars page.
