What the district notes
- Each school level has one teacher workday with no school for its students: elementary schools on Friday, Nov. 6 and junior high schools on Monday, Jan. 25. Each is a school day for the other levels.
- Winter break runs from Monday, Dec. 21 through Tuesday, Jan. 5, as the district's cultural and religious calendar lists it, and students return Wednesday, Jan. 6. Monday, Jan. 4 is a workday for high school teachers only, so no students have school that day. The district's instructional calendar shows it differently: it marks Jan. 4 as a high school teacher workday and Jan. 5 as a school day.
- With winter break through Jan. 5, this calendar has 179 school days. Elementary and junior high students each have one more day off for their level's teacher workday, so they have 178. The district's calendar does not print a day count.
- Summer school begins June 14 (Da Vinci) and June 21 (all other schools).
- DJUSD also publishes a cultural and religious calendar. Staff try not to schedule important meetings, field trips, tests and athletic competitions on major religious and cultural holidays such as Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 11-13), Yom Kippur (Sept. 20-21), Diwali (Nov. 8), Lunar New Year (Feb. 6), Eid al-Fitr (March 9-10, estimated) and Passover (April 21-29).
