Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, Sept. 7. Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 2.5-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 18 at early dismissal to Sunday, Sept. 20. Minimum B day, end of grading period. Back Monday, Sept. 21.
• 4-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 9 to Monday, Oct. 12. No school. Back Tuesday, Oct. 13.
• 2.5-day weekend: Friday, Oct. 30 at early dismissal to Sunday, Nov. 1. Minimum B day, end of grading period. Back Monday, Nov. 2.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 16 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Sunday, Jan. 3. Winter break. Back Monday, Jan. 4.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 9.5 days off in a row: Friday, Feb. 12 at early dismissal to Sunday, Feb. 21. Minimum B day, end of grading period and Presidents break. Back Monday, Feb. 22.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, March 6 to Monday, March 8. No school. Back Tuesday, March 9.
• 9.5 days off in a row: Friday, April 9 at early dismissal to Sunday, April 18. Minimum B day, end of grading period and spring break. Back Monday, April 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, May 29 to Monday, May 31. Memorial Day. Back Tuesday, June 1.

Two early releases on a Friday or Monday make a 2.5-day weekend.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Nine weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

One of the days off is a staff day. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

Makeup days

The academic calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• The academic calendar lists no conference days. Schools set their own.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher work day (June 4) and Juneteenth (observed) (June 18). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. The last day is Thursday, June 3, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 5 to 10.

Each grading period ends on a minimum A day and a minimum B day; the semester ends after finals.

What the district notes

• Each grading period ends on two minimum days in a row, an A day and a B day for the block schedule: Sept. 17-18, Oct. 29-30, Feb. 11-12 and April 8-9.
• Finals are Dec. 16-18 and June 1-3. The last day, Thursday, June 3, is also graduation.
• Presidents week is a full week off, Feb. 15-19, and spring break is April 12-16.
• The calendar has 180 school days: 85 in the fall and 95 in the spring.
