Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

Grading periods

MPS grades in quarters. The calendar's Quarters table prints 47, 48, 38 and 47 school days; our count of its grid gives 47, 48, 37 and 47 (it prints 17 days for January, where the grid and the dated list have 16). Its Semesters table prints 95 and 85; the grid gives 95 and 84. Each quarter starts on the first school day after the last one ends.

What the district notes

  • During fall break, Nov. 20 to 22 and spring break, schools are closed but some district services stay open. On the other closed days, district offices close too.
  • The calendar prints no dismissal time for the high school semester exam early releases on Dec. 21 and May 23. On Dec. 22 and May 24 all schools let out 2 hours early.
  • School starts early this year: the first day is Wednesday, July 26, 2028. The last day of school, Thursday, May 24, 2029, is also graduation day.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 29 is not listed as an early release, so it is a full day; every other school Wednesday from Aug. 2 to May 16 lets out 2 hours early.
