Calendar notes: what to plan around

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends. A half day next to a weekend adds half a day.

• 4-day weekend: Friday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 7. Teacher work day (no school) and Labor Day. Back Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 11. Fall break. Back Monday, Oct. 12.
• 9.5 days off in a row: Friday, Nov. 20 at early dismissal to Sunday, Nov. 29. Early dismissal before Thanksgiving break and Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 17.5 days off in a row: Friday, Dec. 18 at early dismissal to Monday, Jan. 4. Early dismissal before winter break, winter break and teacher work day (no school). Back Tuesday, Jan. 5.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15. Teacher work day (no school). Back Tuesday, Feb. 16.
• 10 days off in a row: Saturday, March 20 to Monday, March 29. Spring break and professional development day (schools closed). Back Tuesday, March 30.
• 3-day weekend: Friday, April 9 to Sunday, April 11. Teacher work day (no school). Back Monday, April 12.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Ten weeks have fewer than five school days, and five weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Five of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Monday, March 29: professional development day (schools closed)

Makeup days

The district calendar names no makeup days. If school closes for weather, the district announces how the day is made up.

Also worth knowing

• School is open on a federal holiday: Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 12). Banks, post offices and many offices close; school does not.
• The district calendar prints no parent-teacher conference days. October is Parent Visitation Month.
• The district calendar prints no testing dates.
• After the last day, the calendar still shows teacher work day after the last day (May 26), Memorial Day (May 31) and Juneteenth (observed) (June 17). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026. The last day is Tuesday, May 25, 2027, with early dismissal.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run July 30 to Aug. 4.

The district prints 177 instructional days across the semesters. Our count of the calendar matches.

Grading periods

The calendar prints semester day counts and progress report and report card days for each nine weeks, but no nine weeks end dates.

What the district notes

• Progress reports go home Sept. 2, Nov. 12, Feb. 10 and April 21; report cards go home Oct. 14, Jan. 6, March 17 and May 25.
• October is Parent Visitation Month.
• Spring break runs March 22-26, and Monday, March 29 is a professional development day with schools closed. Students return Tuesday, March 30.
