DeKalb County Schools early release days

The district calendar lists no early release days. Every school day on it is a full day.

Schools can still send their own early dismissal notices, so watch for those.

Long weekends and breaks

Every stretch of three or more days with no school, counting weekends.

• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Sept. 5 to Tuesday, Sept. 8. Labor Day and PD day (no school for students). Back Wednesday, Sept. 9.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Oct. 10 to Tuesday, Oct. 13. Fall break. Back Wednesday, Oct. 14.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 29. Thanksgiving break. Back Monday, Nov. 30.
• 18 days off in a row: Saturday, Dec. 19 to Tuesday, Jan. 5. Winter break and PD days (no school for students). Back Wednesday, Jan. 6.
• 3-day weekend: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Back Tuesday, Jan. 19.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, Feb. 13 to Tuesday, Feb. 16. Makeup day 1 (no school unless needed) and PD day (no school for students). Back Wednesday, Feb. 17.
• 9 days off in a row: Saturday, March 20 to Sunday, March 28. Spring break. Back Monday, March 29.
• 4-day weekend: Saturday, April 24 to Tuesday, April 27. Makeup day 2 (no school unless needed) and Flex PD day (no school for students). Back Wednesday, April 28.

Weeks with fewer than five school days

Nine weeks have fewer than five school days, and four weeks have none at all.

Teacher workdays: no school for students

Four of the days off are staff days. Teachers work; students stay home. Plan child care as you would for a holiday.

• Tuesday, Feb. 16: PD day (no school for students)

Makeup days

Makeup day 1 (becomes a school day if needed), Monday, Feb. 15 (a holiday unless needed to make up a day lost to weather or another school event) and Makeup day 2 (becomes a school day if needed), Monday, April 26 (a holiday unless needed to make up a day lost to weather or another school event).

• After the last day, the calendar still shows PD day after the last day (May 27). Students are already out.

First and last day of school

The first day of school is Friday, Aug. 7, 2026. The last day is Wednesday, May 26, 2027.

Teachers start sooner. Staff days before school run Aug. 3 to 6.

What the district notes

• Feb. 15 and April 26 are makeup days. Each is a holiday unless the district needs it as a school day to make up a day lost to bad weather or another school event. Each sits next to a PD day with no students (Feb. 16 and April 27), so as planned they make four-day weekends.
• The calendar counts 177 instructional days. The district also posts a Spanish edition of the calendar on its calendar page.

We read every date off the district's own calendar twice: once from the PDF's text and once from the image, cell by cell against its legend. Then we checked each one against the Spanish edition of the calendar and the DeKalb County Schools calendar page.
